Our European Album of the Week for the week 25th-29th June came from the Welsh musician, Gruff Rhys. Previously part of the groups Super Furry Animal, Gruff Rhys released his fifth solo album, Babelsberg, on 8th June. Ellen spoke to Gruff about the creation of his new album, recorded as a four piece and then adapted to grandiose orchestral arrangements in collaboration with Welsh composer, Stephen McNeff. Gruff spoke to us about the up coming tour, two dates of which will be performed with a live orchestra (Manchester and London). As well as his music, Gruff gave us his view on the importance of creating music in native languages; his mother tongue being welsh, Gruff explained how the welsh language can communicate the nuances of the lived experience specific to Wales.
